This room only has one window, so I made 2 panels.. For each panel, I folded the sides in about a 1/2 an inch and ironed it, then sewed it in place..

…because it looked like this:.KNOW.. Not to worry!

Here’s how it looks today!.You can read more about that crazy adventure of a renovation here!.In other bedroom news, our master bedroom looked like this for the first 2 years that we lived here and it made me absolutely crazy.. Today it looks like this!.

Well, actually that’s how it looked last year right after I finished with the project. If I’m being honest, right now today, it’s a little bit more of a total mess than that.

Also no pumpkins.

But let’s just pretend that I took those pictures 5 minutes ago and that I do have pumpkins in there in August because I’m just a super-prepared blogger like that, K?.We removed those little wavy pieces over the windows as well as all the trim running along the tops of the cabinets.. We were actually able to cut those same pieces of oak trim down to fit our new design, so that was really convenient.

Instead of having one long piece of trim running all along the ceiling and joining all the cabinets together, we decided to trim out each individual upper cabinet. That really maximized the openness of the ceiling and kind of gives the feeling of individual pieces of furniture in the room.

I love this look for a kitchen because it’s both an updated look and also totally appropriate for an old farmhouse like ours..This was a pretty simple job overall, but one with a really big impact.
